Eugenie J.

Private tutor in Amman, Jordan

Education

I am an incoming PhD student in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. I am going to be pursuing research in novel biomaterials for translational applications and working on complex novel dynamic nano-systems. I am a recent graduate of Smith College, with a GPA of 3.8/4.0. I earned my bachelor's of science in Engineering cum laude with high honors. I graduated from the Ahliyyah School for Girls in Amman, Jordan from the IB program (science stream) with a score of 41/45. Subjects were: Biology HL, Chemistry HL, Arabic B HL, English A1 SL, Math SL, and ITGS SL.

Experience

I tutored linear algebra and Calculus I, II and III at a university level for 3 years. I also tutored introductory chemical engineering courses for two years! I have done three years of research in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Yale (Saltzman Lab), Princeton (Prud'homme Lab) and at Smith (Moore and Buck Labs) in chemistry, biomolecular engineering, chemical engineering, and biomedical engineering. I have a publication pending for my research at Princeton on nanoparticle formation techniques and chelation chemistry. English is my first language, but Arabic is my mother tongue. I am fluent in both languages! I want to become a tutor because I am passionate about STEM education using the Imaginative Education theory I learned in a STEM education class I took this semester at Smith. I am very patient, but also a very systematic and analytical teacher and learner and I believe that private tutoring should be revamped to allow the student to contribute more to their education rather than me, as the educator, giving the answer to the student simply. I believe in challenging students but also supporting them using my analytical techniques while solving any problem owing to the amazing skills I gained from my professors who graduate from Stanford, MIT, Princeton and Brown.
